SOS Engineering was founded by a group of experienced Oil and Gas Engineers.

George Caraganis

George is the CEO and a Mechanical Engineer . He worked for Shell Canada for over 30 years in a variety of roles including project management, operations management and technical management. At Shell George gained experience in Refining, Oil Sands, Upgrading, Styrene and management of intellectual property.

More recently, George was the Executive Manager of a renewable energy company located in Vegreville Alberta.

Harm Willem de Groot

Harm has been active in the Materials & Corrosion Engineering discipline since 1981 and started at Shell Research in Amsterdam. His career spans 35 years for Shell in Materials Research, Materials and Corrosion engineering and managing Pressure Integrity Engineering teams in refineries, Upgrading facilities and chemical plants. The last four years of his Shell career he was responsible for leading a team of Materials Engineers in Houston and Calgary that supported Shell Oil and Gas facilities in the America’s. After retiring from Shell, he has been active as a consultant in the oil and gas industry.

Dan Pearce

Dan is a Mechanical Engineer who has worked 25 plus years in Process Automation. Dan worked for Shell Canada for over 35 years in a variety of roles including project management & design, rotating equipment, energy conservation, Advanced Process Control,

Reliability, Process Automation and Technical management. At Shell Dan gained experience in Refining, Upgrading, and IPA/Polypropylene Chemical plant.

Dan managed instrumentation commissioning (loop function testing) for 2-1/2 years at NWR. Position included developing test procedures, documentation, troubleshooting, budgets and schedule.

DON Peterson

Don is a Mechanical Engineer with 35 years’ experience in operating plants implementing risk based asset integrity programs, PEIM programs and Process Safety / OEMS systems.

Don is an Engineering leader with 25 years’ experience leading teams in major facility C&SU, turnarounds, maintenance & reliability execution, and projects with EP accountabilities to $1.5B.

Hugh West

Hugh is a Mechanical and Chemical Engineer and worked for Shell Canada for 27 years in a variety of roles including lead machinery engineer, lead reliability engineer, Engineer at Large Scotford Complex where he led multidiscipline teams to resolve the most complex plant problems.

After retiring from Shell, while working with Natco for 7 years, Hugh developed 6 patents as sole inventor in the area of liquid, gas, solids separation. More recently, Hugh was with North West Redwater Partnership as rotating equipment engineer for 5 years.
He has assisted in the commissioning of several plants – 2 refineries, 1 upgrader, and 1 primary extraction
